Text Box: As the new year is beginning, many of us make resolutions; but do we keep them? After talking with the members from Ark House, it was clear that the most popular goal was losing weight. Saving more money was also popular.  Many of us have the desire but are already sure we will fail.  The following are some ways to keep our resolutions. 
 
1.  Make realistic goals, smaller goals are more attainable. 

2.  Have a plan; when to start first, next, and last:  write this down if necessary.








Text Box: 3.  Don’t procrastinate or make excuses.

4. Acknowledge you may slip and forgive yourself.

5.  Try not to make one goal.  This is overwhelming.

6.  Possibly wait until later in year—it may be the right time for you.

7. Make a pro and con list—refer to it when your willpower is weak.

8.  Reward yourself—celebrate with something you enjoy.

Text Box: Managing Your Well-Being In Stressful Life Experiences
Text Box: Doris Lockhart, a member of clubhouse, had a stressful experience a few months ago, in November.  Her sister had an operation which required 24 hour care. Doris was available to her sister and aided her in such things as bathing, eating, dressing.  She also dispensed medication.  Doris, who suffers from depression knew that this situation may put her at risk for setback.





Text Box: To prevent a relapse, she took the following steps: Taking her medication, getting plenty of sleep, eating right her self. She also checked in with her caseworker more frequently.  Doris said she feels a great  sense of accomplishment having helped her sister recover while maintaining her mental health. 







Text Box: “It was very important I did not get depressed more, because I  wanted to help my sister, I knew to ask for help if things became overwhelming.
