     He never stopped beating me.  If I would have stood  up for myself he would have been put in his place.  For 15 years I wanted a baby and he did too.  He wanted a boy and I wanted a girl.  I finally had one and he made me stay home from work for 5 months.  During that time we were able to sign up for welfare but after we used up all of that money we would gather up moss, dig ginseng, and gather aluminum cans to make ends meet.  It was hard at times but we always seemed to make it.

Text Box:     My name is Rosetta and I have had a mental illness off and on for thirty years.  The first years of my life were a struggle.  I had my first break down when, if I remember correctly, I was 28 years old.  The first medication they put me on was Thorazine. 
     I had a real bad husband who beat me over the least little thing.  We grew up in the same town and married in Chicago, Illinois.  He worked so hard but he always turned to the bottle and whipped me.  I was afraid of him.  He finally got so bad a social worker had him put in a nursing home. Taking your medicine at proper times and in proper amounts
Getting plenty of exercise and rest
Getting plenty of sunlight; its important not to isolate yourself
Following all doctors orders
